AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Police made a second arrest on Monday in a weekend shooting that killed a man and injured more than a dozen other people after gunshots rang out in a busy downtown Austin entertainment district.

Austin Police and the Killeen Independent School District said officials arrested a 17-year-old boy at Harker Heights High School in Harker Heights. He faces grievous bodily harm charges.

Austin Police are working closely with the Killeen Independent School District and its police department in the investigation, according to a district statement.

A spokesman for the Killeen school police confirmed the arrest of the 17-year-old and referred further questions to the school district about 112.65 kilometers north of Austin. The school district referred questions to the Austin Police, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Austin police announced a prior arrest on Saturday, hours after the early morning shooting. Interim police chief Joseph Chacon said investigators believe the violence began as a dispute between two parties. Chacon declined to reveal details, such as whether investigators believe both suspects fired shots, citing the ongoing investigation.

The shooting took place around 1:30 a.m. on 6th Street in the Texan capital and caused panic in the popular nightlife.

Douglas John Kantor, 25, who was hospitalized with critical gunshot wounds after the shooting, died at 12:01 p.m. on Sunday, Austin police said in a press release.
