9. “Jennifer West: Painted Cat Hacker Film” at Times Square Arts, New York

For this edition of Times Square Arts’ monthly “Midnight Moment” series, Jennifer West picks up on the internet’s love of everything feline with an artistic take on the cat video. The artist captured footage of cats being filmed on a green screen by adding colored dye to the celluloid before converting the filmstrips into high definition video to create handmade digitized GIFs. West was interested in working with cats because of their online popularity, but also because of research suggesting that internet cat content can serve as a form of stress reliever.
