As Austin’s technology industry grows, so do support companies.
This week, Touchdown PR, a global public relations agency focused on the technology industry, announced plans to move its headquarters to Austin. The company opened a new office in North Austin and plans to recruit 20 new employees for a total of 35 employees over the next 18 months. Touchdown PR opened its first Austin office in 2017.
“What we see in Austin is what everyone sees in Austin, it’s such a potential epicenter for business,” said James Carter, CEO and Founder of Touchdown. “It will only get more exciting”
TouchdownPR also has locations in the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia and employs more than 70 people. It is ranked one of the top 20 US technology public relations firms by O’Dwyer’s. The decision to relocate official headquarters to the Austin office this year was driven by a 50 percent increase in American revenue, Carter said. That growth spurt now makes America Touchdown the top-selling region for America Touchdown, he said.
“Our Austin office’s business is growing 50 percent this year,” said Carter.
TouchdownPR plans to invest $ 10 million in talent acquisition over the next five years to become the largest independent public relations firm in Austin, Carter said.
“Why do people come to Austin? I think it’s about finding the rock stars, ”Carter said. “The rock stars of Silicon Valley have all been found. You were hired. There is no one left. “

Austin’s Katie Schaeffer is one of those people, he said. He selected her to lead the Austin office as the company’s new business operations manager reporting to Emily Gallagher, executive vice president and chief revenue officer.
Local customers include Solarwinds in Austin and Pathwire in San Antonio. Further customers are Forter, Globalization Partners, Exabeam, Zerto, Fluent Commerce, Leaseweb and Datadobi. TouchdownPR specializes in enterprise technology innovations ranging from mobility, security, data protection and storage to networking, communication, big data and analytics and the cloud.
Being in Austin didn’t mean pursuing Austin opportunities, Carter said. The Austin location gave the company the ability to service both east coast and west coast technology brands, he said. The city’s time zone makes it easier to serve customers in North America and around the world, Carter said.
“The tech scenes on the east and west coasts love us, now we want the tech scene in Austin to watch us,” he said.
Austin has many technology companies unknown to the wider world, Carter said. Touchdown PR specializes in taking them from “zero to heroes,” he said.
“There are a lot of companies doing cool things that don’t get attention,” Carter said.
