GREEN BAY (NBC 26) – According to several predictions, this July 4th holiday will be the busiest travel vacation in more than a year.

That means a few busy weeks at the local airports.

“It is too early to say if we will see record numbers, but our airlines tell us that bookings for the week before and the holiday week are exceptionally strong,” said GRB Director Marty Piette. “Starting next week, traveling will pick up on Wednesdays, with Thursday and Friday being particularly busy. For the week of the fourth it looks like it will be later in the week and the weekend will be busy.

Since summer travelers are both families and less experienced air travelers, Piette has given some tips to make air travel as smooth and hassle-free as possible:

· Make hotel and rental car reservations before you leave.

– Given the current travel boom and lack of rental cars, you want to arrange your hotel and car in advance

· Don’t forget to cover your face and your ID.

– Face covers / masks are required in the airport and during all fights

– For adults, ID such as a valid driver’s license or passport is required. · Find out about the TSA hand baggage regulations in advance.

– You can bring up to 12 oz. Hand disinfectant on board in your hand luggage

· Parking at the GRB is quick, easy and cheaper than at major city airports.

· Arrive 90 minutes before your flight. While check-in and TSA processing are generally quick and straightforward, you can be sure to be early.

· Bring things for your children to read and / or play while you wait.

· Do not pack liquid snacks for travel.

Leisure travel has been on the rise since mid-spring, as people look forward to visiting family, friends and favorite vacation spots again. “While the aviation industry has not yet fully recovered from the pandemic, vacation travel has certainly boosted business,” added Piette. “Now everyone is waiting and hoping that the business trip will resume in the fall.”
