Jobs that are hiring workers in Central Texas

Here in Central Texas, employers are looking for workers in a variety of industries, from craft jobs to IT positions.
AUSTIN, Texas – It has been more than a year since COVID-19 closed many businesses, but new challenges emerge over time.
“Believe it or not, we are still at the end of the reopening process,” said Eric Silverstein, the owner of Bar Peached and The Peached Tortilla.
Silverstein says it was a struggle to hire workers when everything reopened, but now they’re in a good place. Despite rising product costs, they decided to increase pay to get qualified staff.
“People in the industry deserve compensation,” says Silverstein. “It’s associated with an increase in the cost of dining in the restaurant, that’s part of it, there just needs to be a certain amount of understanding with the guests.”
The Texas Restaurant Association says restaurants lost 60% of their workers during the pandemic, and many are still trying to get that workforce back.
“Almost every type of restaurant needs almost every type of employee to meet the really strong recovery in consumer demand that we are excited to see and seek to meet and capitalize on,” said Kelsey Erickson Streufert, vice president of government relations and advocacy Texas Restaurant Association.
Restaurants are far from the only businesses in need of a workforce in central Texas. Workforce Solutions Capital Area executives say skilled craft jobs are in high demand as more real estate is being built in Austin.
Due to the increase in online shopping, manufacturing and truck driver positions are also required.
Positions in the field of IT must also be filled. These can range from positions that require experience and a degree to jobs that only require certification.
In the past month, many of our major hospitals have advertised positions for medical personnel.
“Registered nurse is the top job these hospitals see advertised,” said Leslie Puckett, director of research and career awareness at Workforce Solutions Capital Area.
Workforce Solutions offers different types of training and job fairs to connect employees and employers.
