A new look
Recently, Hays CISD hosted the Protector Series, Wheelchair and Occupant Security Bootcamp near Austin, Texas. During this training boot camp, school vans trained with the recently introduced automatic and self-tensioning retractors of the Silver Series from AMF Bruns. The experience and feedback were exactly what inspired AMF Bruns to bring their new retractor to market.
The three-day training course helped remove all doubts about how to properly secure a wheelchair in a school bus using Protector series occupant restraint systems. Over 75 school transporters were given the tools to support their teams and teach proper safety techniques, including hands-on training.
“It was a great team building event that everyone was looking forward to,” said Maritza Valentin, Sales Director at AMF Bruns of America. “This highly interactive course enabled participants to learn all about wheelchair and occupant safety systems. The training also emphasized and helped school traffic staff understand their value in securing a passenger and their wheelchair. “
The main goals of the training were:
- Device overview
- Secure the wheelchair
- Securing the occupant with different occupant safety devices
- Understand your vehicle floor anchors
- WC 18 and WC 19 and understanding of the regulations; Identifying a WC 19 wheelchair
- Raising awareness of the risks of improperly securing passengers
- Disembarking passengers
- Passenger sensitivity / etiquette
- Certification
