Enough Wayward Texas Democrats Returned to Austin Briefly to Create a Quorum

AUSTIN, TX – A number of members of the Texas Democratic House returned to the Austin Chamber for a temporary quorum and allow the governing body to conduct business.

The Texas Tribune reports that enough lawmakers were in Texas House on Thursday for the Chamber to do business – and opened the door for the GOP Priority Election Bill to be passed that prompted the Democrats to flee the state in July to close him the legislation.

The last three Democrats with a quorum were led by Houston Rep. Garnet Coleman. Houston Democrats Armando Walle and Ana Hernandez joined Coleman on his return Thursday night, with Walle pushing a wheelchair for Coleman who had recently had his leg operated on.

After the quorum was in place, the House referred several bills to committees and then immediately adjourned them to Monday.
