AUSTIN, Texas – An arson investigation was ongoing after a man wearing an American flag headscarf threw a Molotov cocktail into the county Democratic Party headquarters in Austin.
The incendiary device did not ignite when it was thrown into the Travis County Democratic Party headquarters at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, said Austin Fire Department captain Brandon Jennings. A small pile of papers was set on fire but was quickly extinguished with a fire extinguisher by employees of a neighboring shop.

Nobody was in the office at the time, said Travis County’s Democratic Party leader Katie Naranjo, but the incident was captured by surveillance cameras. A note was left with a politically motivated threat, Naranjo said.
“Anyone who wears an American flag as a headscarf and then throws a Molotov cocktail … into a building and leaves a note, a threatening letter, is a coward,” she said.
The authorities did not publish the contents of the note.

The man in the video is also suspected of destroying a Travis County administrative building a few hours later, Jennings said.
