Today, Friday, the 13th edition of Up To Speed, Andy shared the following updates, starting with the highlights of the week.

Up To Speed News Rundown

Special Up To Speed Live next Monday

If you’re looking ahead, join us next Monday at 12 p.m. ET for Up To Speed Live. We are joined by Craig Silliman, our Chief Administrative, Legal and Public Policy Officer and our interim HR manager. He’ll be sharing important updates on our COVID-19 and work forward plans, so tune in on Monday.

Dixie Fire reaction

Our Verizon Response team means business when they say they are in a crisis. In the case of Dixie Fire in Northern California, our team will continue to move forward in a big way. Verizon’s residential and small business customers, who are hardest hit by the Dixie Fire, will continue to receive unlimited calls, texts and data. Our Verizon Response Team is available 24/7 to provide Verizon Frontline technology to assist first responders.

Please note that some Verizon retail stores’ opening hours may change due to mandatory forest fire evacuation orders.

VtoV employee aid fund

When our teams are grappling with natural disasters like forest fires, it’s a good time to remind all V-Teamers of the V to V Employee Relief Fund. Please donate today. All means will be used to help your V-teammates in their need.

AMC + with us

If you stay inside to brave the heat, remember that Verizon is the place to be for great entertainment. The best just got better with AMC +. This week we started offering up to 12 months of AMC + to customers who sign up for select Unlimited or Fios plans.

And yes, that’s the same AMC + that hosts Cable’s biggest show, The Walking Dead, which begins its final season. As a special benefit, if you get AMC + through this deal, you will be able to stream the premiere of The Walking Dead’s final season on AMC + for a week before it comes out on TV.

Verizon already offers our customers a number of streaming benefits, and now AMC + gives you a premium library of originals, some of your favorite AMC series, plus exclusive dramas and films from Shudder, Sundance Now, IFC and BBC America.

More 5G home and mobility cities

Speaking of breakthrough networks, let’s talk about this week’s news on 5G Home and 5G Ultra Wideband. Austin, TX and Gresham, OR customers now have access to Verizon’s 5G home broadband and 5G ultra wideband mobility services. In addition, customers in Albuquerque, NM; Little Rock, AR; and Nashville, TN; now have access to Verizon’s 5G Home service and Birmingham, AL customers now have access to 5G Ultra Wideband mobility service.

“This is the first time people can find both good phone coverage and good coverage at home in one place,” said Sid Braddy, a retail specialist in Nashville, TN. “Verizon has always been the most reliable network, and it’s really cool to have that flexibility at home and not have to worry about bills.”

Thank you, Sid and the following sales representatives, for your thoughts and enthusiasm (and in Billy’s case, his dance moves!): Brooke Wallace, Austin, TX; Dalton Bell, Albuquerque, NM; Jasmine Dockery, Nashville, TN; Michelle Weber, Gresham, OR; Erick Williams, Birmingham, AL; Chiara Randall and Billy Ellis from Little Rock, AR.

BlueJeans and Apple Health

Here’s a health question for you: where do you go when you feel sick? More and more people go to their digital devices first to see their doctor virtually.

Good news: Virtual visits are now even easier and safer as the BlueJeans Telehealth app is now integrated with Apple Health. This means patients can securely share health information – including heart rate and sleep patterns recorded from their iPhones or Apple Watch devices – with healthcare providers.

This is all part of BlueJeans’ effort to replicate in-person consultations as closely as possible. Another benefit: the service is available to healthcare providers even if they are not Verizon subscribers. Big compliments to the BlueJeans team!

Equinix

Of course, our Verizon Business Group is always busy, and this week is no different. With our new partnership with Equinix, we are expanding the software-defined interconnect solution for global companies and public sector customers.

What exactly does that mean? Customers can connect their private network services to hundreds of cloud, infrastructure and service providers with automated connectivity on the same day. This solution helps them migrate to the cloud quickly and at a lower cost of access, which is part of the Verizon Business Network-as-a-Service strategy. We congratulate our teammates on another valuable partnership!

Inside Verizon on LinkedIn

Before we wrap up this Friday the 13th, some of us on the Up To Speed team are wondering: Are you superstitious? Are you avoiding sidewalk cracks to save your mother’s back? Don’t you go under ladders? If so, we’d love to hear about it. Check out our LinkedIn post under our Inside Verizon handle and leave a comment. Follow us when you are there to see all of our great content.

Rai wins gold

The last time we mentioned our favorite Olympics Rai Benjamin at Up To Speed, he had won a silver medal. As an update, he anchored the men’s 4×400 relay this weekend and won gold! Congratulations to Rai and thanks for the lesson in perseverance!

To see the race this Sunday

If you don’t see AMC +, don’t forget to check out the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard this Sunday. Verizon and GoPro have teamed up to give racing fans a behind-the-scenes look at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. From the pit lane to the driver’s seat, fans can watch both NASCAR and Indy car races on social media throughout the weekend. 5G will make all of this possible by enabling editing and uploading of content on site along the route. Make sure to tune in to Verizon and GoPro on Twitter with the hashtag # 5GBuiltRight.
