Aug 24 – AUSTIN – One of the nation’s best mullets is in Austin, and it’s not going to be cut anytime soon.
Curtis Wilson, 29, and his 14-inch mullet are one of 25 finalists for the USA Mullet Championships, an online competition where people have to vote for the hairstyle they think has the best party in its back.
Wilson said about 200 people entered the competition, which was awarded $ 2,500 for first place. Wilson became aware of this through a Facebook post about a month ago and wanted to join the cause he is supporting.

“Half the money goes to suicide education for soldiers, so I thought there was no better reason for it,” said Wilson. “I decided I’d spent $ 10 more stupid elsewhere and I wanted to try. I never thought it would go that far, to be honest. “
Wilson started growing his mullet three years ago. His great-aunt had died of cancer and lost her hair in a fight. Wilson decided to grow a mullet and eventually donate his hair to a good cause.
“She had no children, so she treated me and my siblings like we were their own,” said Wilson. “She was a very special woman when she left us … And that was when I wanted to do something for her so that she could keep going and she is with me now. I would never have made it this far if it weren’t for you. “
The entire family has adopted the “lifestyle” the mullet has become in the Wilson household, he said.
His 7-year-old daughter Chloe has already told him and his fiancé Cheyanne Steinbrink that she would like to breed one for herself. Steinbrink hesitates a little.
His 5-year-old son Callen also loves his father’s mullet and will point out other mullets that he also sees in public.
Steinbrink wasn’t sure what to think when Wilson started growing it three years ago, but now she wants him to keep it for their May wedding.
