Austin police identify man hit, killed in southeast Austin on June 29

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin police identified a man who was hit and killed on Ben White Boulevard last month while trying to remove bags of mulch from the pavement.

His name was Miguel Guerrero-Garcia, 40. The crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on June 29 in Block 8300 on East Ben White Boulevard. This is near US Highway 183 and the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Police said a 2014 white Jeep Wrangler and a panel van would be in the center lane. The driver’s side of the jeep hit the passenger side of the van, causing the jeep to pull into the outside lane.

There, according to police, Guerrero-Garcia picked up mulch bags that had fallen from his trailer. The jeep hit Guerrero-Garcia and he was pronounced dead on the spot.

This is the 55th traffic accident for Austin this year, according to police, in which a total of 57 people died. On June 29 last year there were 40 fatal accidents with a total of 42 deaths.
