Austin restaurants throw a line to Louisiana fishermen with benefit

The devastating effects of Hurricane Ida – the Category 4 storm that struck Louisiana in late August before sweeping the northeastern part of the country – opened a devastating can of worms to the area’s fish trade.
But some of Austin’s most respected chefs, restaurants, and alcohol industry veterinarians are hoping to raise funds through a fundraising tasting event to help the affected Louisiana fishermen.
Chef Adam Brick, who many will remember from his time at Apis Restaurant, leads the culinary delight that will take place on Monday, September 13, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Justine’s Secret House on East Seventh Street target.
Austinites can purchase tickets online ($ 100 per person) with all proceeds going to benefit fishermen who were hit by the hurricane and are invaluable to the fishing industry, even in Austin. Hurricane Ida caused widespread damage in southwest Louisiana, where many Austin restaurants source their snapper, grouper, crab, shrimp, tuna, and more.
Austin restaurants participating in the benefit tasting include:
-
Justines
-
Dealers
-
Emmer & rye
-
Hestia
-
Luties
-

-

Drinks that are included in the ticket price (but please tip your bartender!) Are provided by Still Austin, Austin Winery, Celis Brewery, Austin Eastciders, Good Night Loving Vodka, and others.
In addition to the first-class food and drinks, guests can buy some “very desirable” items and excursions by participating in the silent auction on site. Locals unable to attend the tasting can also do their part by donating to the Fisherman Restoration Fund through GoFundMe.
In addition, the following restaurants offer a special of the week or a special of the day, the proceeds of which will go to the Hurricane Ida Fisheries Relief Fund:
-

Food lovers should note that masks are required at the September 13 fundraiser.
