Austin Riley’s walk-off single lifted the Braves above the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS, and he put his superhero cape back on in Game 2.
On Saturday night, the NLCS kick-off, the Atlanta Braves made it in the ninth inning when Austin Riley delivered a clutch single that drove into Ozzie Albies to take the 1-0 lead at home.
After Atlanta tumbled 4-2 in Game 2 on Sunday night, Riley thought the Braves might need him to tie the cloak and play the hero role again.
Albies got it rolling at the end of the eighth inning when he drove into Eddy Rosario to reduce the lead to one run. Then Riley stepped to the bowl and showed that the clutch gene was alive on him. He missed a starting shot for the starting shot just a few meters and started a brace into the left field, which allowed Albies to get to goal from the first step and level the game.
It’s Austin Riley’s world and the Dodgers hate living in it.
Although the Braves had a home advantage for the NLCS, they came into the series as serious underdogs. But if Austin Riley has his way, his team doesn’t live up to that bill.
After starting the year off slightly and drawing a lot of criticism from fans, Riley dropped out and played at a legitimate MVP level.
Judging by games 1 and 2 of the NLCS, he also has no plans to stop playing at the level in the postseason.
