Readers of a popular travel magazine apparently love to keep things weird Austin-style.
In a recent poll, Travel + Leisure readers rated Austin as the 13th best city in the United States. Charleston, South Carolina topped the list. Two other cities in Texas received praise: San Antonio (# 6) and Fort Worth (# 12).
Every year, the magazine asks readers to share their thoughts on cities, airlines, hotels, spas, and other travel experiences. Readers rate cities according to their sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping opportunities and the overall value.
“The standout achievements in 2021 are as widely scattered as ever and indicate a renewed appreciation for places that offer unparalleled natural beauty and, in many places, fewer crowds,” said Jacqui Gifford, editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure, in a press release.
Notable Austin attractions include our live music scene and festivals, the world-class Circuit of the Americas race track, Barton Springs Pool, many local parks, and the bats of Congress Avenue.

So take a look around and put the live music capital of the world on your playlist, ”advertises Visit Austin’s website.
Travel + Leisure readers also praised Austin’s Commodore Perry Estate, Auberge Resorts Collection, which tops the list of top Texas resorts.

And the Hotel Emma in San Antonio was ranked seventh among the 15 best city hotels in the continental United States. Hotel Emma is the only Texas hotel on this list.
