The Austin Symphony Orchestra’s July 4th Concert & Fireworks, which has been a local Independence Day tradition for decades, will return to Vic Mathias Shores this year after missing 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The free event, produced by the symphony with support from sponsors like HEB, has been held in the center of town since the 1970s along the waterway now known as Lady Bird Lake.

The program begins in Vic Mathias Shores, across Riverside Drive from Long Center, at 8 p.m. with guest speakers and a performance of patriotic symphony classics. After dark, the sky lights up with extensive fireworks.
There will also be vendors selling food and drink, as well as handicrafts and memorabilia, according to Tuesday’s press release announcing the event. “OSA continues to work closely with the city of Austin and is following current public health recommendations,” the announcement said. “More information on the event details will be published shortly.”
