Here are the latest COVID-19 updates in central Texas for Wednesday September 1st.

- Texas: More than 3 million cases have been reported in the state and more than 55,600 people have died in Texas, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Counties in Central Texas:
- Austin-Travis County: The 7-day moving average for new hospital admissions is 68 and an average of 611 people are hospitalized. The 7-day moving average for new cases is 508. Over 104,530 cases have been reported and at least 961 people have died since the pandemic began.
- Hays County: There are currently 2,123 active cases and 69 people are currently being hospitalized (58 unvaccinated, 11 vaccinated). At least 25,596 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 322 people have died since the pandemic began. At least 23,151 people have recovered from the virus.
- Williamson County: There are 542 new coronavirus cases in Williamson County. Twelve percent of hospital beds are available and 0% of ICU beds are available. At least 53,551 cases have been reported and at least 549 people have died since the pandemic began.
- Central Texas School Districts:
- Austin ISD: As of August 31, there are a total of 47 new COVID-19 cases (37 students, 10 employees) and a total of 200 new exposures (198 students, 1 employee, 1 other).
- Round Rock ISD: on August 31st. there are 62 new positive cases (58 students, 4 employees) and 657 new “close contacts” (630 students, 27 employees). There were a total of 463 cumulative positive cases (389 students, 74 employees) and a total of 4,820 cumulative “close contacts” (4,178 students, 624 employees).
- Leander ISD: For the week from August 28th to September. 3 there were a total of 177 positive cases. There were a total of 784 cumulative positive cases.
- Pflugerville ISD: For the week from 30.08.-09. 3, there were a total of 73 positive cases. There were a total of 391 cumulative positive cases.
- Hays CISD: A total of 134 new cases were reported for the week of August 30 (121 students, 13 staff). There were a total of 190 cumulative positive cases.
- Public Schools in Texas (School year 2021-22; updated on Fridays with data from the previous Monday-Sunday)
- Cumulative positive student cases: 20,256
- Cumulative positive personnel cases: 7,488

19 o’clock – Hays CISD has set up five classrooms across the district for distance conferencing due to COVID-19 cases – two at Elm Grove Elementary School, one each at Buda and Negley Elementary Schools, and one special education classroom at Chapa Middle School.
5:12 pm – The Williamson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Office is closed to the public today through September 10 due to possible COVID-19 exposure and operates remotely.
Although the physical location of JP1 will be closed during this time, staff are available to answer questions by phone and email during normal business hours. In addition, visitors can deposit documents in the JP1 drop-in box.

4:30 p.m. – Hays County reported two more COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, a Kyle woman in her 80s and a San Marcos woman in her 60s. The health department also reported 195 new confirmed cases, as well as 18 new hospital admissions and four new hospital discharges. 189 other people are considered recovered.
3:50 pm – Travis County reported six more COVID-19 deaths as well as 637 new confirmed cases on Wednesday, bringing the total to 104,530 cases and 961 deaths since the pandemic began. At least 100,708 people have recovered from the virus.
Travis County currently has 583 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 214 in intensive care and 157 on ventilators.
