Here are the latest COVID-19 updates in central Texas for Friday September 17th.

- Texas: According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, more than 3.2 million cases have been reported in the state and more than 60,000 people have died in Texas.
- Counties in Central Texas:
- Austin-Travis County: The 7-day moving average for new hospital admissions is 52, and an average of 518 people are hospitalized. The 7-day moving average for new cases is 349. Over 112,089 cases have been reported and at least 1,050 people have died since the pandemic began.
- Hays County: There are currently 1,788 active cases and 55 people are currently being hospitalized. At least 27,573 confirmed cases have been reported and at least 347 people have died since the pandemic began. At least 25,438 people have recovered from the virus.
- Williamson County: There are 349 new coronavirus cases in Williamson County. Thirteen percent of hospital beds are available, and 2% of ICU beds are available. At least 59,126 cases have been reported and at least 595 people have died since the pandemic began.
- Central Texas School Districts:
- Austin ISD: As of September 17, there are a total of 116 new COVID-19 cases (100 students, 13 employees, 3 others) and a total of 655 new exposures (643 students, 12 employees). As of August 16, there have been 820 cumulative positive cases (658 students, 151 employees, 11 others) and 4,874 cumulative exposures (4,789 students, 75 employees, 10 others).
- Round Rock ISD: On September 16 there are 23 new positive cases (22 students, 1 employee) and 170 new “close contacts” (156 students, 14 employees). There were a total of 1,179 cumulative positive cases (1,034 students, 145 employees) and 11,123 cumulative cumulative “close contacts” (10,219 students, 904 employees).
- Leander ISD: In the week from September 11th to 17th there were a total of 140 positive cases. There were a total of 1,243 cumulative positive cases.
- Pflugerville ISD: There were a total of 136 positive cases for the week of September 11-17. There were a total of 795 cumulative positive cases.
- Hays CISD: As of September 17, there are 269 active student cases and 36 active employee cases. There were a total of 598 cumulative cases from students and 111 cumulative cases from employees.
- Texas Public Schools (2021-22 school year; updated on Fridays with dates from previous Monday through Sunday)
- Cumulative positive student cases: 126,687, up from 60,527 on August 29
- Cumulative positive personnel cases: 24,476 compared to 14,377 on August 29

8:45 a.m. – Lake Travis ISD has slightly updated its COVID-19 logs. As of Monday, September 20, all students living in the same household with a COVID-19 positive person must be quarantined and will not be allowed to re-enter the school until 10 days after the date of the last exposure.
Any employee deemed to be a close contact may not remain on campus unless they are asymptomatic and are participating in a regular district rapid testing program. If an employee develops symptoms or tests positive, they must leave campus until the applicable re-entry criteria are met.
7am – The Circuit of the Americas is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine event on Sunday, September 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. There’s also free food, drinks, and multiple rides, including a ferris wheel. Vaccinated people can also take part and are entitled to win raffle prizes.
