Austin, Texas, moves to Stage 3 of coronavirus guidelines

The area has been in the Level 3 area since September 30, but local health officials officially announced the move on Tuesday morning.
AUSTIN, Texas – Austin-Travis County has entered Phase 3 of the region’s risk-based COVID-19 guidelines, health officials said Tuesday morning.
The area reached the level 3 hospitalization area on September 30, just days after Austin Public Health moved the area to level 4. On September 30, the 7-day average for hospital admissions was 29.7 per day. The Level 3 threshold when it comes to the hospital admission metric is a 7-day moving average of 15-29 admissions.
As of Monday, October 11th, the 7-day moving average for hospital admissions is according to Austin’s COVID-19 dashboard.
Hospital admissions aren’t the only metric health officials consider when determining what stage the area should be in. Officials monitor several key indicators including the 7-day moving average of new hospital admissions, positivity rate, and current ICU and ventilation patients.
There are currently 255 people in the hospital, 108 in intensive care and 76 on ventilators as of October 11, according to Austin’s COVID-19 dashboard.
Under Level 3, vaccinated individuals can attend private outdoor gatherings and dine and shop without masking if a company permits. You can also attend private indoor gatherings and travel masked. Unvaccinated individuals are encouraged to wear a mask at all times.
