Balfour Beatty recently broke ground for the Oak Hill Parkway infrastructure project in Austin, Texas as part of a joint venture with Fluor Corporation. The design-build project was awarded to Balfour Beatty by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in April 2020 to reconstruct and widen 11 miles of US 290 and State Highway (SH) 71 in Travis County for long-term mobility and improve safety and reduce traffic on one of the most congested roads in the state of Texas.

As part of the joint venture, Balfour Beatty will design and build an upgraded interstate highway along US Highway 290 from the east end of Circle Drive to Loop 1 (MoPac Expressway) and SH 71 from US 290 to Silvermine Drive. The project includes widening the main lanes from two to three and adding two to three front lanes in each direction of travel. An overpass for the main lanes of US 290 via William Cannon Drive will also be delivered, along with a complete reconstruction of the US 290 / SH 71 “Y” interchange with two direct connections between US 290 and SH 71.

Other project components include 24 km of new bicycle and pedestrian accommodation along the entire corridor, improvements to intersections, turning lanes, landscaping and tree planting, corridor aesthetics, and upstream rainwater retention and water quality basins.

Balfour Beatty has worked continuously with TxDOT and Fluor for more than two decades on the design and construction of five infrastructure projects across the state, including current work with its partners on the delivery of the Southern Gateway and I-635 LBJ East projects in Dallas.

Construction is ongoing for the Oak Hill Parkway project, with completion scheduled for 2025.
