Catfish Parlor is closing its original location after serving catfish and coleslaw for 48 years.

The last day of operation of the seafood restaurant at 11910 Research Blvd. is November 6th. After opening the original restaurant in 1973, owner David Kerbow opened two more locations in Georgetown and South Austin. As a family business, his son Chris Kerbow owns the Georgetown site.

His father owns the building and land and wants to sell the property so he can retire, said Chris Kerbow. In an almost 50-year-old building, remodeling to continue operations would be expensive, said Kerbow.

“It’s a combination of my father’s age and the age of the building,” said Chris Kerbow. “It’s a tough time for restaurants. It’s really hard to find help; Food costs are high; and real estate values are high; So it’s something like the perfect storm. ”

Although the original site will be closed, the two remaining sites will remain open. Decorations from the first location are being moved to Georgetown to preserve the original experience, said Chris Kerbow. Devices and employees will also be relocated to the other locations, said Chris Kerbow.

“It’s just a bittersweet event for our families and employees,” said Chris Kerbow. “But my father’s career has been incredible. They know the family legacy will live on here in Georgetown and South Austin. We’re just glad we’ve served millions upon millions of people over the years. ”
