October 23 (Reuters) – Briton Jamie Chadwick won the first of two W-Series races in Austin, Texas on Saturday and entered the season finale of the all-female single-seater championship on Sunday with a 10 point lead.

As the winner of the inaugural title in 2019, the 23-year-old now only has compatriot Alice Powell between herself and a second crown.

The pair, with three wins each, tied on points before, but Chadwick now has 134 to Powell’s 124 after overtaking pole-sitter Abbi Pulling on corner one and leading him to the checkered flag.

Powell finished third after starting from 10th, behind Finland’s Emma Kimilainen.

Chadwick will start the race on Sunday from pole position at the Circuit of the Americas, Powell finished ninth.

The series, which is part of the supporting program of the US Formula 1 Grand Prix, is intended to help female racing drivers climb the career ladder in motorsport. The champion will receive a cash prize of US $ 500,000.
