AUSTIN, Texas – A group called CANCEL ACL FEST has petitioned Change.org in hopes of getting the city of Austin to cancel the Austin City Limits Music Festival in 2021 because the Austin area is unifying experienced another surge in COVID-19.

The two-week festival is currently about two months away, with events in Zilker Park from October 1st to 3rd and October 8th to 10th.

“Due to Governor Abbott’s laws against vaccination cards and masking requirements, it is no longer safe to hold this event. ACL doesn’t even plan to discuss a rejection. For the public safety of everyone living in Austin, it is best to cancel the festival. The pandemic is not over yet, the virus is still mutating, we must do everything we can to stop this super-spreader event.

“Many people without vaccines will be able to participate, many will get sick. We have to ACT NOW!

“If you agree with what has been said, please sign the petition, please circulate it to friends and family! We have to do everything we can to protect each other. “

By Wednesday, 261 people had signed the petition. The goal is 500 signatures.

Headliner Stevie Nicks announced on Tuesday that she would be retiring from the festival for health reasons. On Wednesday, ACL announced that Duran Duran would take their place.

Tickets for both weekends are already sold out.
