The bright, hot middle of an Austin summer may seem like a bizarre time to ponder the Christmas shopping season. But when it comes to a special banded mammal badge event that has been a staple of the Christmas season for decades, it’s never too early to plan a Christmas shopping spree.

After a pandemic year in which the personal version of the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar was canceled in 2020 in favor of a virtual shopping experience, the revered local is returning to Austin with a personal festival – and a massively expanded floor space totaling nearly 70,000 square feet – Dec.15-24 . December at the Palmer Events Center.

A must-have shopping and entertainment experience, Armadillo has something for everyone from local and national award-winning art to the best of local live music and food. And with an additional 25,000 square feet of exhibition space this year, the bazaar promises an enhanced Christmas shopping experience for the roughly 40,000 Texans and tourists flocking to the event.

Shoppers can mingle happily with artists as they groove to the spirited sounds of the Christmas spirit and musicians performing at the event.

The full line-up of participating artists and musicians will be announced around Christmas time.

“This season will celebrate the long-standing Austin tradition and introduce an armadillo for the new Austin,” says producer Anne Johnson. “A collection of the most creative and talented artists from all over the country and from our own garden will make a truly amazing arts festival. There are also additional changes in the works that will breathe new life into this Austin issue and we can’t wait to hear more about them soon. We missed the festive tradition of dancing in the hallways to live music while shopping and discovering art and can’t wait to get back together. “

A fundamental live music shopping and festive destination for 45 holidays, Armadillo is traditionally home to around 200 visual artists and makers, alongside music artists ranging from breakout musicians to touring singer-songwriters and Austin music legends.

Artist submissions for the Armadillo are open all year round, with applicants who apply early on being given priority. For more information on how to become a featured artist at Armadillo, please visit armadillobazaar.com/apply.
