Christmas lights, ice skating, holiday shopping await you in Fredericksburg this Thanksgiving week

Fredericksburg’s annual Christmas party in Germany is like something straight out of a Hallmark movie.
And this year won’t be any different. The town of Hill Country, west of Austin and north of San Antonio, continues its seven-week tradition in spectacular fashion and includes an ice skating rink, 9-meter-high Christmas tree, an authentic 26-meter-high German Christmas pyramid, decorated Main Street with Christmas shops and restaurants, and a light exhibition .
The Christmas Nights of Lights will take place from today until January 6th every day at 6 p.m. on the market square. Visitors can experience a 10-minute audio presentation featuring the history of the city’s German heritage, Christmas carols, and a countdown to the lighting of the market square.

The celebrations also include pictures with Santa Claus, a nativity scene, winery events and a ball toss on New Year’s Eve.
“The city’s Christmas spirit is most evident in Fredericksburg’s 26-foot-tall German wooden Christmas pyramid, which was handcrafted especially for Fredericksburg in Germany in 2009,” boasts the city in the vacation section of its website. “Christmas pyramids are a staple food in German Christmas decorations and are carousel-like wooden structures (usually the size of a tabletop) that depict Christmas motifs such as angels and nativity scenes on several levels.”
The Marktplatz at 114 W. Main St. is a community green space and social meeting place with public toilets, a statue commemorating the city’s peace treaty with the Native Americans, and a children’s playground.
In addition to Christmas celebrations, the small Texas town also has several Thanksgiving-themed events and attractions:
Luckenbach Texas’ Thanksgiving Ball, a community dance with live music. Tickets are $ 20 per person and can be purchased here.
An art exhibition entitled “HONOR, COURAGE, COMMITMENT: MARINE CORPS ART, 1975-2018” at the George HW Bush Gallery. The show runs until January 2nd and is closed on Tuesdays.
The Fredericksburg Trade Days Holiday Encore with 400 dealers in seven barns. It runs from Friday to Sunday.
A craft marketplace at the peddler show, also from Friday to Sunday.
Outdoor ice skating at the rink, which runs Friday through January 2nd.
The annual Turkey Trot 5k and 10k Run / Walks on Saturday, which also features a 1-mile fun run for the kids.
