COVID Hospitalizations Are on the Rise Again in Central Texas: Find out where to get vaccinated right now, free of charge – News

Well we had a good run.

For the first time since May, Austin-Travis County has returned to Level 3 of its risk-based COVID-19 guidelines. Austin Public Health reports that confirmed COVID cases have doubled in the past week, with new hospital admissions approaching 20 on a 7-day moving average – well above the 15 threshold required to transition to Phase 3.

What does level 3 mean? For fully vaccinated residents, APH does not recommend behavior changes. Not so with partially vaccinated and unvaccinated people:

• Fully vaccinated individuals can attend private indoor and outdoor gatherings and eat and shop without masking if the company permits. You can also travel with a mask.

• Low-risk, partially vaccinated or unvaccinated people can attend private indoor and outdoor gatherings, dine, shop, and travel with a mask.

• Partially vaccinated or unvaccinated individuals who are at high risk should avoid non-essential indoor and outdoor private gatherings, eating, shopping, and travel.

At a press conference Thursday morning, APH officials emphasized the seriousness of the rising case numbers and the effectiveness of the vaccine in prevention, including the highly transmissible Delta variant. There are now four confirmed cases of the Delta variant in Travis County.

“While the Delta variant has likely been around our area for some time, we now have sequencing confirmation that it is here,” said Dr. Desmar Walkes, Austin-Travis County Health Department. “We know the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and will continue to be effective against the virus and its variants. Getting vaccinated is now more important than ever – don’t gamble away your health and that of your family and community. ”

The upgrade to level 3 was enough for Waterloo Records to announce that the store is again in need of masks for customers and employees. Waterloo spokesman Cory Reinisch said in a press release in the afternoon: “Unfortunately, Covid infections are increasing in Austin – cases of infections among fully vaccinated people, the prevalence of the Delta variant and with Austin now in level 3 on a collision course with level 4″. Limitations – Waterloo Records is reluctant to require masks at all times for the safety of staff and customers. ”

There are a number of pop-up Covid-19 vaccination clinics across Travis County this week. These clinics are available to all authorized persons without registration or appointment and are free of charge. For more information, see austintexas.gov/covid19.
