Dallas has once again earned its gold status among the best places in the country for retirees.

Big D appears on an unrated Forbes list of the 25 best places in the country to enjoy retirement for 2021, which is joined by another popular Texas city: Austin.

Forbes praises Dallas and underscores the city’s passion for art and culture, fine dining, and golf.

“The Big D is characterized by almost 80 golf courses in the area and a strong art / culture and gourmet scene,” says Forbes. “The city has a sufficient number of doctors per capita and is reasonably accessible on foot and very easy to get to by bike.”

Dallas also appeared on the Forbes list in 2020.

As for Austin, the publication highlights its “great music and dining scene” as well as “free senior classes for six credits per semester at the University of Texas at Austin”.

While these are the only Texan cities on the Forbes list, the charming Hill Country town of Fredericksburg recently earned a spot on an unrated Travel + Leisure list of the country’s top 10 small towns to retire to.

T + L emphasizes the city’s German heritage and proximity to Austin and San Antonio.

“Wine lovers will enjoy living in the midst of more than 100 wineries in the area, and stargazers will appreciate the city’s efforts to become a dark sky community with measures to minimize light pollution,” observes Travel + Leisure. “The seasonal changes are significant, with dry, warm summers and cold weather in winter. The area is safe and crime rates are low. “
