DENVER, October 5, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – Design Workshop, an international landscape architecture, planning and urban development firm, is pleased to announce that the company has received six national awards, including the American Society’s Award of Excellence in the General Design and Residential Design categories for landscape architects (ASLA). The ASLA Professional Awards recognized 40 projects from around the world for their craft, innovative approach to design and planning, and their overall contribution to the profession.
“A company that receives six national ASLA awards is an unprecedented achievement and we are honored by this recognition,” said Becky Zimmermann, Managing director of the design workshop. “It is a testament to the talent of our team, the trust of our customers and the cooperation to create spaces that stand the test of time.”
Here is a snapshot of the six projects that won ASLA Awards:
Natural History Museum of Utah – (Salt Lake City, Utah) – Award of Excellence in General Design
The Natural History Museum of Utah provides an introduction to a remarkable landscape and celebrates unique paleontological discoveries, unusual gemstones and minerals, preserved prehistoric artifacts, and stories told by contemporary indigenous people. The museum bridges the gap between nature and culture and offers an abstract expansion and transformation of the country: its campus is an expression of a landscape that is characterized by rocks, minerals and vegetation. Sustainable design elements such as rainwater recovery, permeable surfaces and native planting resulted in a landscape that mimics and restores the natural conditions of the environment and the site.
70 Rainey (Austin, Texas) – Award for excellence in home design
30 meters above the coast of Austins Lady Bird Lake, 70 Rainey is redefining urban multi-family life in a city where technology, culture and innovation are rapidly changing. It is Sky garden, a green retreat dedicated to recreation, leisure and contemplation, is defined by the diverse and indigenous ecologies of the Texas Hill Country that weave a sensual outdoor living experience. Sustainability, a priority from the start, resulted in early microclimate testing, the inclusion of locally sourced pollinator species, and abundant absorbent surfaces preventing rainwater runoff from entering the critical catchment area.
Highland Retreat (Pitkin County, Colorado.) – Honorary award in home design
A family homestead in the Rocky Mountains, Highlands Retreat presents a refreshing vision of holistic mountain design that draws inspiration from its surroundings by lifting the barrier between indoor and outdoor areas. Outdoor living spaces merge almost imperceptibly with forest and meadow and give the home a feeling of calm, stability and resilience.
VanPlay: Vision Plan for Parks and Recreation (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) – Honorary Award for Analysis and Planning
Vancouver Parks & Recreation’s Vision Plan is the first city-wide study in 25 years to address the challenge of creating equity in parks and recreation. Design Workshop enabled over 30,000 conversations with the community to develop a data-driven plan that puts the community’s priorities for equity, asset renewal, and connectivity at the center of city decision-making. The unanimously approved plan has prevailed $ 265 million in new investments to attract more people in Vancouver the opportunity to connect with nature.
Mariposa County Recovery and Resilience Plan (Mariposa County, California.) – Honorary award in analysis and planning
For the past twenty years, every congregation has been in Mariposa County, California, is threatened by large forest fires. To counter this growing threat, Design Workshop has developed a recovery plan that takes into account not only the needs of the parks, but also issues of forest fires and climate change, and provides executives with multi-layered resilience planning and design tactics. Clear goals and strategies enable regional planners to achieve the side benefits of integrating resilience adaptation measures in parks, paths and open spaces. The final plan supports the county’s ability to increase physical and social resilience by minimizing risks to public health, safety and economic disruption, and maximizing protection of the most vulnerable from climate-related events such as forest fires.
Charlie Mountain Ranch (Colo.) – Honorary award for home design
As more and more people withdraw to unique regions in the west United States, landscape architects are challenged to critically examine the effects of development on the surrounding nature. An ideal example of a successful renovation is Charlie Mountain Ranch, a settlement established in the Capitol Creek Valley in the late 19th century. In a state of neglect, Design Workshop has created a design that includes low structures and preserves the diverse and ecologically rich landscape.
