BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) – The large dinosaur statues stolen from a Bastrop County museum were recovered from a brotherhood at the University of Texas at Austin, the business owner said Wednesday.
Linda Nuñez of The Dinosaur Park shared an update that they found the three large dinosaur statues that were stolen from the property near Cedar Creek High School last week. She said media coverage helped the museum find the missing statues, although not all of them are in the best shape to put back on display.
Nuñez said a tipster who attended a party at the brotherhood in question on Saturday night received the information that ultimately led to the statues’ recovery. She said the Bastrop County Sheriff’s office worked with UT Austin police to recover the property from the house on the 2500 block on Pearl Street.
Among the stolen statues were the three named Dimetrodon, Dilong and Minmi. The park posted photos of the dinosaurs on its Facebook page to help spread the word of the discovery. Nuñez said Minmi is intact, while Dimetrodon will take a lot of work to repair and Dilong will be destroyed.
“We are happy to have her at home and are grateful for your help,” Nuñez told KXAN on Wednesday morning.
Dinosaur Park announced a $ 1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those who abducted the dinosaurs. Nuñez said the tipster could receive part of the reward. However, it is currently unclear whether anyone will be charged with theft and property destruction.
KXAN contacted UT Austin for comment and additional information on Wednesday morning but has not yet received a response.
