DISH Network Expected to Drop 112 TV Stations Impacting 3.5 Million Subscribers in 38% of the Country

BALTIMORE–(BUSINESS WIRE) – Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBGI), the “Company” or “Sinclair”, announced today that it is unlikely to enter into a carriage agreement with DISH Network before its current term expires on August 16, 2021 becomes an agreement to promote the Sinclair channels and the Tennis Channel through DISH. As a result, all of Sinclair’s TV channels (listed below) and Tennis Channel would no longer be broadcast on DISH Network. A total of 112 television channels are to be set, including 102 ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC subsidiaries.
DISH Network has a proven track record of recruiting local and national programs that are valued by viewers. DISH recently had flight disruptions, some of which persist to this day, with the NFL Network, HBO, Bally Sports Regional Sports Networks, Mid Atlantic Sports Network, Altitude Sports Network, NBC RSNs, Nexstar Media Group, EW Scripps Co., Mission Broadcasting, Cox Media Group, Sunbeam Broadcasting and Capital Broadcasting. In the past few years, DISH Network has shut down over 230 channels due to carriage disputes.
“We have tried unsuccessfully to negotiate fair and customary terms with DISH Network to renegotiate our retransmission consent,” said David Gibber, General Counsel of Sinclair. “As these negotiations stand, we believe it is important to alert DISH Network subscribers to the real risk that some of their favorite channels will no longer be available on the DISH Network, including their access to live news, local news, popular syndicated programs and sports including college and NFL football and the network programming of our ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and CW subsidiaries in those markets. DISH subscribers also run the risk of losing Tennis Channel. With this loss, tennis fans will not see extensive coverage of the Western & Southern Open from Cincinnati, OH in the run-up to the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open.
On-demand access and online access to the program for DISH Network subscribers would also be lost at this point in time.
“We apologize to our viewers for the inconvenience this may cause, although our programming will continue to be available either through other program providers or over the air,” continued Gibber. “We encourage subscribers in these markets to contact DISH Network and let them know that it is important to them that DISH Network offers these channels and that they should switch to a different TV provider if they are looking for news, Local and national sports and tops interest entertainment programs at the highest level. ”
DISH Network subscribers who wish to cease serving can do so by calling DISH Network at 866-974-0781. DIRECTV can be reached at 1-888-777-2454.
The following channels will no longer be available to DISH Network subscribers after August 16, 2021 if DISH Network continues to decline offers from Sinclair that are consistent with the terms and conditions offered to other MVPDs.
