From food trucks to niche restaurants, Waco offers a diverse range of facilities.

Taquisa Waco offers authentic Mexican food. It has several food trucks in operation, but its main location is at 1425 La Salle Avenue at Route 77 Food Park & Bar.

According to the Route 77 Food Park website, Taquisa Waco makes the best authentic street tacos in town, and its tortillas are hand-dipped in secret spices and freshly grilled right before your eyes.

While Taquisa Waco has been in operation for six years, its food trucks have only been around for two years. It caters to parties, weddings, baby showers, and more.

As a whole family business, Lillianna Gallegos is the owner, with her niece Ana Amador, who works by her side and translates for her. Gallegos’ son works in Austin and also works for them on one of the food trucks.

“She is more connected to her family,” said Amador.

Gallegos said many Baylor students are visiting their main site. Amador said the business has expanded and now extends from Temple to the Dallas area.

Across I-35, Bangkok Royal also offers authentic cuisine at 215 S. University Parks Drive. It advertises itself as a modern Thai restaurant serving curries, noodles and fried rice dishes with vegetarian options.

Jacob Kane, an employee at Bangkok Royal, said he had only been there a year but had been there for five years. He also said he has been eating at the restaurant for 20 years.

Kane said that compared to other Thai restaurants he’s had dinner at – such as those in Houston, California, and Alaska – the Bangkok Royal is very good, but has less emphasis on seafood.

Kane said the owners, Supranklux and Vichai Anantasomboon, are very nice and have owned the business for 20-22 years.

“My understanding is the owner, Vichai, he was born in China but he lived in Thailand and there he met Su and she is from Bangkok,” said Kane. “You lived there for a long time and then moved to Las Vegas with your son Pom.”

Kane said the family had lived in the United States for about 30 years and moved to Waco after living in Las Vegas.

“We have a lot more professors than students, I would say,” said Kane. “In my experience we have a lot of students – but not as many as you might think when you are right here in the city center.”
