On Wednesday, organizers of the annual flower baskets fundraiser gathered on Main Street to launch the annual campaign.
This year marks the 27th anniversary of the beautification of downtown Austin with colorful arrangements in the heart of Austin.
“It’s amazing how our community brings people together so well,” said Bonnie Rietz. “Lots and lots of people are working together to make it happen.”
Over the past few years, the Flower Baskets program has shown 248 baskets across the city center, but next summer it will increase to 256 pots.
“We’ll add pots where people have asked for them,” said Rietz.
The fundraiser has a target of $ 45,000, with the city of Austin providing $ 20,000 and an additional $ 15,000 from private donations. Hormel Food Corporation is donating $ 5,000 and an additional $ 5,000 from last year’s funds.
Flowers will again be provided by Hilltop Greenhouse and Farm near Hollandale.
Another addition from the past few years is the planting of the various soil pots along Main Street.
This is the second year ensuring that something is planted or placed for each season of the year.
It is an effect that will not fail to get people’s attention.
“People come to the Spam Museum and mention how beautiful the flowers are,” says Rietz.
To make a donation to the Flower Basket campaign, make your City of Austin tax-deductible check marked “Flowers 2022” on the memo and deliver it to Tom Dankert at City Hall, 500 4th Ave. NE.
