Austin, Texas – Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is warning Austin travelers to prepare for a busy travel season this Thanksgiving.
Austin-Bergstrom says travelers should expect a “significantly busier than usual” experience due to increased vaccination rates and postponed travel plans from last year. This applies to the entire holiday travel season from Friday, November 19th. until Monday, November 29th
Austin-Bergstrom also advises travelers who may not have flown in a long time, especially those traveling with children, to familiarize themselves with some of the changes due to COVID-19. Face masks are required for travelers 2 years and older at both terminals as the TSA requirement has been extended to January 18.
Better Business Bureau Talks About Vacation Travel Fraud
More than $ 700,000 has been reported in travel fraud since January, and as more Americans prepare for vacation travel, that number could rise. Heather Massey has some advice.
The airport also recommends that you allow time for parking, rental car returns, baggage screening, boarding pass procurement, and security screening, especially before 9 a.m. for travelers. Security checks open at 3:30 a.m. with TSA PreCheck and Clear Screening at checkpoints 1 and 2.
Travelers who are dropped off in the morning can use both the top and bottom curbs to relieve traffic, the airport says, as passengers can use escalators and elevators to quickly get up from the lower floor to the ticket and security checkpoint.
The airport says parking is expected to fill up quickly and limited reservations for the Blue Garage and Red Garage are available online. When reservations are sold out, roll-up options may be available. Travelers use ABIAParking.com to reserve a parking space and check real-time parking availability before arriving at the airport.

Passengers who require assistance in wheelchairs should contact their airline directly prior to arriving at the airport to arrange wheelchair service at the terminal, says Austin-Bergstrom.
For those packing any vacation items, including leftovers, the airport says TSA rules on liquids will continue to apply, so any food that might be considered liquid, such as gravy or cranberry sauce, should be securely packed in checked baggage.

The airport is reminding all passengers that all Allegiant and Frontier flights should depart from the South Terminal and park their passengers at the South Terminal, which can be reached from Burleson Road between US 183 South and FM 973. All other airlines operate from the main airport, Barbara Jordan Terminal at SH 71.
As soon as the airport is in the terminal, new mobile and desktop-friendly digital maps provide real-time information on locations for garage locations, shops, restaurants and route-finding options. The card also allows passengers to view the latest shop and restaurant hours, view menus, and order airport grocery deliveries from select AUS concessions.
