The approximately 150,000 square meter store will employ around 225 people.
(KulturMap) A Costco warehouse that will employ more than 200 people is coming to Kyle, the growing community south of Austin.
Officials from Kyle City, the Department of Economic Development for Kyle and Hays Counties announced July 27th that a Costco store would be built along I-35 between the Kohlers and Kyle intersections. The store will be located in the Dry River District, a 65-acre mixed-use development led by Austin-based Endeavor Real Estate Group and anchored by EVO Entertainment and Home Depot.
According to the announcement, the approximately 150,000 square meter store will employ around 225 people. To attract business, the city and county of Costco provided economic development incentives.
“We have worked to make Kyle a hub for high-paying, quality jobs along Corridor I-35, and investing a company like Costco in our city is a valuable opportunity for our strong and growing workforce,” said Kyle. says city manager Scott Sellers. “In addition to being one of the top retailers in the world, Costco has a proven track record of serving its employees with very competitive wages and benefits.”
It makes good business sense for Costco to open a store in Kyle. According to the US Census Bureau, the city’s population grew by more than 71 percent from 2010 to 2019. Today almost 50,000 people live here.
It is not yet known when construction of the store will begin and when the store will open. On its website, Costco says it doesn’t comment on stores that open in more than three months.
In the Austin region, Costco already operates one store each in Northwest Austin, Southwest Austin, Cedar Park and Pflugerville.
Costco, based in Issaquah, Washington, the fifth largest retailer in the world, had net sales of more than $ 163 billion in fiscal year 2020.
