AUSTIN (KXAN) – Many of us remember the day our nation changed forever, where we were and what we did.
Former KXAN journalist and CNN anchor George Howell (current co-founder of KSQD Media) interviewed Captain Jason Dahl’s family. Dahl was the captain of United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked on the morning of September 11, 2001. It later crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The Dahl family invited KXAN to visit the site in memory of Captain Dahl. Howell was the reporter who went to the construction site with them.
“You really represent the 9-11 family, the people who were hit by this tragedy but so resilient,” Howell recalled. “They found their way through them and were with them, traveled with them to Shanksville, at their invitation, and saw them really process the place where it happened… that was again one of those moments I never do will be forgotten. “
On this trip he learned that Captain Dahl has been flying since he was 15 and that it was a lifelong dream. A family member told Howell that she comforted herself in the fact that he died doing what he loved.

“The person I know Jason is my husband’s little brother, he was a man of integrity, he was very proud of what he did, and he was a man to trust,” Debra said Dahl Howell in an interview.
“You really feel the strength of this family, despite all the adversities, despite the situation, to still get together, to feel the love they had for Captain Dahl, it really showed the spirit of these families and what they went through. Howell recalled.
