It was a big night in the area for boys’ basketball teams when five punched their tickets to a CIF Southern Section semifinal and took their place in the CIF State Southern California Regional Tournament that followed the section finals.

Neither team had to travel further than Glendora (21-6), however, as they headed to Coachella Valley to claim a staggering 55-52 overtime win over hosts Palm Desert (19-5) in a CIF Southern Section Division 3A quarterfinals.

Glendora made it to the CIF semifinals Friday night with a 55-52 OT win over Palm Desert on the road. The tartans meet at home on Citrus Valley on Friday evening at 7pm.

The Tartans have a home game against Citrus Valley on Friday. The Blackhawks defeated Knight High School 49-42.

“It was a tough achievement and I’m proud of the way our kids played tonight,” said Glendora coach Gordon Hamlow. “This was our first real road trip of the year so it was nice to have a great pre-game meal and connect with the players. That was something we couldn’t do because of the pandemic. “

Senior Guard Austin Clark had a big night for the tartans when he was ahead by 23 points and took six rebounds. “Austin played a tough physical game for us,” said Hamlow. “He made a significant contribution to the victory.”

Junior Noah Smith added 17 points and newcomer Luke Jacobsen contributed seven points and 11 rebounds. Ayden Green was also able to prevail in extra time with two key baskets and two successful free-throw attempts.

“It will be nice to have a home game on Friday,” said Hamlow. “We won’t have to fight this Friday afternoon traffic.”

Pasadena Poly 67, South El Monte 27: The Panthers (13-2) reached the semi-finals of Division 4AA when they were able to easily dismantle the Eagles (12-3). Junior guard Justin Odibo proved too much for South El Monte as he scored 15 points and took six rebounds. Jack Williamson was the game’s top scorer with 16 points.

“What I like about our team is that we share the ball and we play great defense,” said Pasadena Poly coach Brad Hall. “We’re trying to play right. We don’t have transfers, we want to share the ball, we want to play defense and we’ll do that, we’re pretty good. “

The second quarter resulted in the Eagles’ demise when Pasadena Poly beat South El Monte 22-6. Kareem Amwar led the team with 10 rebounds.

One of the few key players who had a productive night for South El Monte was Joshua Medina. The senior center was the team’s top scorer with 12 points.

Pasadena Poly has a home game against Lake Elsinore on Friday. The Tigers defeated the Orangewood Academy 49-46.

Arcadia 65, Wiseburn Di Vinci 64: The Apaches scored a goal with 0.7 seconds remaining in the game to advance to the semi-finals of Division 4AA. Arcadia receives Paramount in the semifinals on Friday. Paramount defeated Victor Valley 74-59.
