Angelica Crespo of Danbury has received a Connecticut Architecture Foundation grant of $ 5,000 in 2021 from the nonprofit. Other people in the state also received the same grant from the organization.

Students have each received a US $ 5,000 scholarship from one of three scholarship funds: the Charles DuBose Memorial Scholarship, the Suzanne Sheng Memorial Scholarship, or the Connecticut Architecture Foundation Scholarship.

The Foundation awards scholarships to students who are earning a degree in an architecture program from an accredited Connecticut university or who are a Connecticut resident and are seeking a degree from other accredited universities.

Crespo is also a first-generation student at the New York Institute of Technology in Manhattan, NY Crespo completed her third year at the school and was recently inducted into the school’s five-year accredited architecture program.

Crespo is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and is involved in her local Danbury community. Crespo also organized a fundraiser from the New American Dream Foundation during the coronavirus pandemic to raise awareness and provide meals to people in need. Crespo hopes to do an internship near her community and one day professionally renovate and design environmentally friendly buildings.

Habitat for Humanity receives donation

Housatonic Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, has received a donation from GoodHouse Flooring, based at 60 Mill Plain Road in Danbury. The company recently installed flooring in a new office at the company’s location at 51 Austin St. in Danbury. The company donated the carpeting, labor, and got the job done in a few hours.

The organization’s mission is to improve the lives of skilled working-class families by promoting financial stability and self-sufficiency through affordable home ownership, which in turn helps empower local communities.

Event for the presentation of vacancies in manufacturing

Northwest Connecticut NEXT GEN Manufacturing Partnership is holding a production cessation event on September 15 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Naugatuck Valley Community College on 9 West St. in Danbury.

Representatives from local manufacturers, the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, Naugatuck Valley Community College and the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to discuss various options with anyone interested. This event is an open house format. The public is invited at any time that suits their schedule.

Man kayaks in flood

When tropical storm Ida hit Connecticut, Matt Batista from New Milford hopped on his kayak.

He kayaked over the flood waters outside commercial and industrial properties on Augusta Drive in Danbury at around 12:30 p.m. last Thursday. The properties are owned by his father Steve Batista and grandfather Eduardo Batista.

Soccer team honors first responders

Green Wave Gridiron Football Club honors local first responders at New Milford High School’s first home football game.

The game is against Stratford High School and takes place on Friday at 7 p.m.

Entry to the game is free for first responders receiving a meal. Milford’s new Mayor Pete Bass will speak at halftime of the game.

The event is designed to honor first responders from the New Milford area who put their lives at risk every day, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. The club mentioned police, fire departments, emergency medicine, search and rescue services, and other areas of public safety.

Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio in New Milford is hosting a new Gazing at Clouds, acrylic pool painting art exhibition from featured artist Laura Brown (aka Lulu Belle).

Meadow Ridge residents award scholarships

The benchmark community for retirement in continuous care, Meadow Ridge, Redding, has announced the winners of the community’s annual scholarship fund for 2021

A total of US $ 135,000 was given to 27 Meadow Ridge employees or their children to help them earn college degrees, certifications or graduate degrees from 18 public and private educational institutions in the New England area and beyond

The scholarship is used for further training in the areas of care, social work, art and more.

Some of the employees will be able to complete training and eventually work in other Meadow Ridge departments. A number of restaurant workers are considering careers as activity leaders, nursing, accounting, or expanding their knowledge of health or psychology. Several employees at Meadow Ridge’s Qualified Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ridge Crest, will use the funds to earn advanced nursing degrees.

Meadow Ridge residents founded the fund back in 2004 to support the professional development of over 275 employees and their families. The fund is subscribed by residents. The fund was established more than 15 years ago. The scholarship amount has increased from $ 4,000 to over $ 100,000 in recent years.

The community has 136 hectares and 415 apartment buildings, which offer their residents independent living, assisted living as well as qualified care and rehabilitation. The community’s new Mind & Memory Care, designed for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, is expected to open in 2022. Visit the community website at grassridge.com for more information.

Art gallery for opening reception

The RPAC Gallery is holding an opening reception on September 16 from 6 to 9 pm, a VIP preview party for an art exhibition “Beyond Limits”.

The exhibition was co-curated for the first time in the northeast by the gallery and the artist Guy Stanley Philoche.

There will be cocktails, spirits and hors d’oeuvres. The reception brings together artists from Philoche’s Philoche Collection of artworks for the exhibition. The exhibition will be open to the public on September 17th and run for a month until October. The gallery is located at 410 Main St. in Ridgefield. Philoche is also available for interviews on request.

When COVID hit in March 2020, Philoche felt the impact of the pandemic on the art industry and knew he had to act. He turned to social media and shared a video on his Instagram page asking his fellow artists to help with the cause and stating that he wanted to buy as much artwork as possible. He encouraged viewers of the video to send him their artwork. Philoche has acquired over $ 350,000 worth of artwork from more than 300 artists worldwide.

Artist, seller wanted for Christmas market

Outstanding claims requests from artisans and sellers are available for United Church of Christ, Southbury’s, Holiday Market. The market is a new addition to the church’s traditional Christmas market. The show will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on November 13 at Meeting House Green in Southbury. The green borders the church at 283 Main St North in Southbury. Seats start at $ 50 for a 10-foot by 12-foot area. Sellers will want to have a range of holiday-themed merchandise available for sale.
