Holiday travel rush at Austin Straubel Airport as people return from their extended weekend

GREEN BAY (NBC 26) – The vacation travel rush is in full swing as many of the people who escaped this weekend are now returning.

At Austin Straubel International Airport, many travelers returned after a long weekend of fun and excitement.

As more people in the United States get vaccinated, airports have seen a huge increase over the last year on Memorial Day weekend.

The TSA recorded the highest number of passengers since the pandemic began in March 2020 on Friday.

The TSA said that 1,959,593 passengers passed security checkpoints on May 28, the first time more than 1.9 million people have flown since the coronavirus pandemic suspended travel.

Many people are excited and finally have the confidence to be on their way for the first time in a year.
