Islamic State group claims responsibility for Uganda blast – KXAN Austin

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) – The Islamic State is committed to the bomb attack on Saturday in which a person was killed in an outdoor restaurant in the Ugandan capital Kampala.
The extremist group said in a statement late Sunday that it detonated an explosive device in a public place “frequented by elements and spies” by the Ugandan government.
Local detectives are still investigating the incident, raising concerns that extremists are gaining a foothold in this relatively peaceful East African country and targeting it for their violent attacks.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni described the explosion as an obvious act of terrorism.
Museveni said three people walked into the pork restaurant in a busy suburb of Kampala late Saturday and left a plastic bag, the contents of which later exploded. The police have not disclosed any arrests.
The UK government updated its Uganda travel advice in early October to say that extremists “are very likely to attempt to carry out attacks in Uganda”.
