JEFFERSON – Downtown Jefferson continued to rock when the Remy Reilly Band took the stage at historic Bayou City’s newest music venue and restaurant, 1852 on Austin, which opened its grand opening on Thursday.

Set in a historic old bank from 1852, the new upscale restaurant and music venue will continue to celebrate its grand opening this Labor Day weekend, with an all-star line-up of live performers on stage.

The new restaurant and music venue offers fine dining, as well as live bands, musicians, and other artists for East Texans and visitors to downtown Jefferson.

The house was full on Thursday when the Remy Reilly Band took the stage and guests tried a limited event menu that will expand to a full menu once the rest of the restaurant’s supplies and tables have been delivered.

13 beers stood along the historic bar on Thursday in honor of the 13 fallen US military servicemen who were recently killed in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Built in 1852 on the first bank of historic bayou town, the building has been completely modernized and renovated to offer a premier dining experience in the heart of Jefferson.

David Echols, a graduate of Marshall High School, bought the building and began renovating it in the spring. The restaurant and venue are run by Echols’ business associates, Mickey and Brenda Morrison.

Echols and the Morrisons were on hand to greet the guests on Thursday when the doors opened to the public for the first time.

“It was a great opening event,” said Echols on Thursday. “We couldn’t ask for better staff, we’re expecting a full house tonight to see the Remy Reilly Band from Nashville, and we’ve received incredible support from the Jefferson community.”

Echols said the Austin celebration in 1852 has only just begun with a Beatles tribute band, blues performer, and Texas country star performing every night during Labor Day weekend. Tickets for the concerts are available from the 1852 on Austin website.

The former The Franchise building houses a fine-dining restaurant at the front, while the music hall with a separate entrance for concerts and events is located in the rear of the building. The state-of-the-art kitchens are located in the middle of the building so that the waiters can easily serve food to both the upscale restaurant guests and the guests of the music venue.

The building also has an apartment suite on the upper floor which should be available for weekend rentals in the future.

“I grew up in the Caddo Lake area and we originally wanted to buy the Big Pines Lodge on Caddo Lake,” Echols said last week. “One day we decided to visit Jefferson for lunch nearby and we were walking down Walnut Street and I saw the“ for sale ”sign here at The Franchise. I remember the building from a visit about 25 years ago. “

One more visit was enough to convince Echols that he wanted to open the new restaurant and music venue there.

“We will be offering a regular lunch menu from 11 am to 2 pm and fine dining from 5 pm to 10 pm, as well as a Sunday brunch,” Mickey Morrison describes the restaurant. “We serve seafood and steak dishes and are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.”

In addition to the fine menu with steaks and seafood, much of which comes from Alaska, the restaurant will also offer a first-class wine list from a Californian winery, according to Morrison.

Next, the Beatles tribute band “Me & My Monkey” will take to the stage at 8pm today and the world-famous blues and soul performer Chris Cain on Saturday at 8pm. The opening line-up on Labor Day weekend will be rounded off by the Texan country star Kylie Frey, who will perform on Sunday at 8 p.m. The doors open every evening at 6 p.m. and tickets are now available online at www.1852onaustin.com.
