Jeremy Michael Austin

1977 ~ 2021

Jeremy Michael (Wood) Austin (aka Jeremiah Lynn Jones), 44, died of a brief illness at the West Jordan Care Center, West Jordan, Utah, where he lived for 29 years. He died peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021, with his mother by his side. Jeremy was born on May 4, 1977 in Circleville, Ohio. His parents are Boyd W. Austin and Melanie Sue Wood Austin. Born Jeremiah Lynn Jones, Jeremy moved with Roger and Patricia Southward and his family at the age of three months until he was 3½ years old and was adopted by his mother Melanie Wood in December 1981. Jeremy and his mother moved to Utah in 1985, where Jeremy received his graduation certificate from Jordan Valley School in 1998. Jeremy competed in bowling and athletics for the Special Olympics. Jeremy’s mother was promoted and met Boyd while moving into the apartment complex. The three became friends who grew up into families. Jeremy was adopted by Boyd in May 1996. Jeremy was so excited because he was an Austin seven days before his mother and father’s wedding.

In 1992-93, Jeremy had a spinal hemorrhage and was admitted to the West Jordan Care Center because of his quadriplegia, and home care became very difficult. Jeremy fit in exactly and won everyone with his smiles and kisses. Jeremy had a real zest for life. He enjoyed and loved his family, other people, camping, music, movies, travel, fishing, church, and all kinds of adventures. He really loved everyone at the West Jordan Care Center and the TTC. They were his second family and home.

In addition to his father Boyd, his brother Timmy preceded him in death.

He survived alongside his mother, Melanie Wood Austin; are his sisters Angela (Victor) Ogden from West Valley City, Utah and Machelle (Michael) Jay from Rupert, Idaho; Nieces: December Krystel, Ashley, Whitney, Savannah, Olivia; Nephews: Angelo (Joe) and Cody; Great nieces: Serenity, Brie, Journey, Juniper, Liberty, and Bexley; Great-nephews: Bodee, Taylor, Ryder, and Wyatt.
