LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – Direct flights from Derby City to the live music capital of the world will soon become a reality, as Allegiant Air announced a new non-stop service from Louisville to Austin, Texas on Tuesday.
The non-stop route from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport begins November 18th. Allegiant is offering special one-way fares on the new route that travelers can get for just $ 39.
The year-round flights are offered twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays with an Airbus A320 with 186 seats, as the airport officials from Louisville and Allegiant announced.
“We are grateful that Allegiant recognizes the strength of the Louisville market and continues to invest in our community of services for Austin,” said Dan Mann, executive director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority, in a press release on Tuesday. “There is a lot of positive momentum at SDF as we continue to see robust air traffic growth and passenger traffic surge to near record levels. Kentucky’s largest city attracts the bourbon lovers, while Austin is a music lover’s paradise, perhaps best known for hosting the South by Southwest Festival (though Louisville also rivals events like the “Trifesta” of three festivals in September and Forecastle can).
“A little over two years ago, Louisville became a regional Microsoft hub for artificial intelligence, data science, and the Internet of Things. This new flight will give us a direct link to Austin’s growing tech industry as we continue to expand and diversify our pipeline for technical talent through partnerships with Microsoft, IBM, Humana, the General Assembly and others, “said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. in Tuesday’s press release. “Thank you, Allegiant, for your continued commitment to air traffic development in Louisville.”
Cleo Battle, Louisville Tourism’s chief operating officer, called it “a very exciting time for Louisville as we continue to applaud the critical growth of the Airlift”.
“By expanding nonstop service to Austin, travelers can conveniently enjoy each city’s renowned music scene, along with the Urban Bourbon Trail cocktail and dining experience in Louisville and the world-famous barbecue at the Lone Star State,” said Battle of Louisville Air Service expanded, we continue to see airlines like Allegiant investing in our city and capitalizing on our upward momentum. Ultimately, new routes like this will help us welcome additional leisure and business travelers and move closer and closer to our long-term goal of 25 million visitors by 2030. “
