The employee revealed the most important ingredient in the popular burger – and that’s probably why your attempts at home don’t taste like the original.

Ever wonder why your attempt at trying a Big Mac at home didn’t taste quite like the Macca version?

Well, a Macca employee revealed the food contained in the famous sauce on TikTok, stunned customers.

In a now-deleted TikTok, @maccas_myths shared that the fast food chain uses two types of onions, one of which was used for flavoring in their burgers.

“At Macca’s we have two types of onions,” they said.

“Big onions that have been cut and dehydrated onions that are put in water overnight.”

After soaking overnight, the dried onions are placed in shakers and used in the chain’s Big Macs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, Daily Mail Australia reports.

Dehydrated onions not only last longer, but also taste stronger – what Macca’s fans claimed was what made the restaurant’s burgers taste so good.

“These dehydrated onions beat differently,” wrote one person while another said, “I rehydrate onion flakes for my burgers at home because my kids say they taste just like McDonald’s.”

It’s not the first time a Macca worker has revealed that the fast-food chain uses dehydrated onions.

Last year, the Canadian employee @ austin.martinn shared how his store used a huge package that was the equivalent of 385 servings.

Workers empty the dried onions into a tub and add cold tap water so that the onions can soak for an hour.

Then excess water is drained and the onions go to the burger assembly area where they are added to customer orders.

The video, which has been viewed nearly 400,000 times, garnered hundreds of comments from people who were stunned to find out where their Macca onion really came from.

“Didn’t know that onions could be dried like that. This is crazy, “commented one person while another added,” I never knew this OMG. “

“I don’t care,” wrote a defiant Macca fan. “I love these onions and I want to buy some of these packs to make at home.”

The video even jealously inspired a rival fast food employee who commented, “And here I am on the subway, crying and cutting onions at 6 a.m. !!!”
