Do you or someone you know have unwanted agrochemicals that need to be disposed of? This is an important opportunity to dispose of unwanted agricultural pesticides and triple-flushed empty plastic containers free of charge for the manufacturer. An event like this has not been held in the East Texas region for many years.

You can dispose of these properly free of charge and leave them in your vehicle. The event will be held at Henderson County Regional Fair Park, 3356 Texas 31, Athens, TX 75752. It will take place on Thursday, October 28th, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Accepted materials include:

  • Obsolete, discontinued, or unwanted agricultural pesticides
  • insecticides
  • Herbicides
  • Fungicides
  • Rodenticides
  • Nematicides
  • Growth regulators
  • Empty, triple-flushed plastic pesticide containers (55 gallons max.)
  • Empty or partially metal barrels

PESTICIDES MUST BE STORED IN THE ORIGINAL CONTAINERS EVEN IF THE LABEL IS NOT PRESENT. Unknown pesticides are sampled and identified on site.

Materials not accepted:

  • Explosives and ammunition
  • Petroleum based products
  • Colours
  • Medical waste
  • Radioactive substances
  • Pesticides, chemicals and household waste
  • tires
  • Fertilizer, propane or butane bottles
  • Chlorinated hydrocarbons
  • Fumigant canister
  • Used motor oil and other car fluids
  • Car batteries
  • Empty tote bags
  • Methyl bromide cylinder
  • Dioxins (2,4-5T, Silvex, TCDD etc.)

Pesticide dealers and traders are not allowed to participate. If you or someone you know must complete the Hunter Education Course to earn a hunting license, the course is held on Saturday, October 16, from 1pm to 7pm at Fire Station FM 2983 South of Marshall. The registration fee is $ 15. You must enroll in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunter Education Classroom Course online and enter the zip code of 75670. Doug Dotson will be teaching the course again this year. The proceeds will go to Harrison County 4-H. Not many of these courses are offered, so don’t hesitate and sign up as soon as possible.

The Harrison County Cattleman’s Association will hold its annual general meeting and steak cooking on October 21st at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Eric Yates of Merck Animal Health will be on hand to address current issues with internal parasites and resistance to treatments. Each year, the Cattleman’s Association recognizes outstanding leaders in the community, both adult and school-age, with awards and scholarships. Please answer Susan or Ann at (903) 930-0829 or (903) 930-7248. There are free fecal test kits available for your flock that you can pick up at the Extension Office at 102 W. Houston.

Start making plans for the Pineywoods Hay Show now. The submissions consist of a core sample for nutritional analysis and a feed bag with loose hay for visual inspection. These samples must be submitted by October 15 so that the analysis can be returned in time. The meeting will take place on November 9th from 6:00 p.m. in Enoch’s Stomp. A meal is served. So make sure you get these RSVPs.

If you’ve ever thought about taking a soil sample, now is the perfect time. We will be accepting samples submitted here in our office until October 15th. You pick up the sample and bring it to the office, along with the payment and papers, and we take care of the delivery to the laboratory. The cost is $ 15 per sample. If your garden is not performing the way you want it to and your garden needs help, this could solve your problems.

If you need to take the Texas Department of Agriculture Private Applicator Class to test and obtain the Tour License, please contact the office for more information. Classes will take place on November 19th here in the extension office. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Classes start at 8:30 a.m. and should be completed by 1 p.m. Call the office to add yourself to the list and for instructions on your study materials.

Farm City Week Steer Day In takes place on October 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Jake and Katie Bibb’s farm at 31 Texas, 5505 Elysian Fields Road Marshall, Texas 75672 to the house. You can’t turn around

We will validate heifers for large breeding shows at the same time as oxen. (If your heifer has previously been validated, it does not need to be validated again.) Please let us know how many heifers you need to validate so that we can order UIN numbers.

If you are planning to exhibit a sheep or goat at a major cattle show (Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston), we will need your $ 25 for a mark by October 1st. Goats are tagged at the same time and in the same place as cattle.
