AUSTIN (KXAN) – In a 40-minute interview with Kara Swisher on Sway, a New York Times public opinion podcast, Matthew McConaughey spoke about everything from imagining he was going to die to his favorite bumper sticker On the question of whether he actually goes or not to throw his hat in the ring to the Texas governor.

“Where can I be most useful? Do I see politics as a message that benefits me, my family, and most of the people in my life the most? ”McConaughey said in the interview after Swisher urged him to explain what he meant when he said he would become one “Measure” candidacy for governor.

McConaughey said he’s learning more about politics and trying to see if he can make more change there or as a private individual.

“I also notice where I’m going, uh, I have no idea about politics. Ooh, is this a place to make real changes, or is it a place where it’s a fixed game right now. You go in there, in four years’ time you just put some plasters on and go out, and they’ll tear them off when you’re gone. I don’t care, ”he said.

When asked about the newer Texas political landscape, including the Abortion Act, COVID-19 Protocols, and the Electoral Integrity Bill, McConaughey, as he has in the past, said nothing he had not discussed before.

“It’s not a big deal with the masks. It seemed easy to me too soon, ”he said. “Yes, now, the abortion – this new SB 8, six-week abortion ban – I’m not going to come out and tell you now on this show, here I stand for abortion.”

The law prohibits abortions once cardiac activity is detected, which could be as early as six weeks of pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant.

McConaughey said he felt that the implementation of Texas’ new abortion law was “a little bit youthful”. He also said that he did not like that the law made no exceptions for rape or incest and that it could be implemented in as little as six weeks.

You might be wondering about the alligator thing.

“I have one last question. You talked about how your father died and he predicted his death, he called it just right. Do you ever think about how you are going to die? ”Said Swisher.

“I feel like I’m going under as part of the food chain,” McConaughey replied. “It was – the dream were alligators.”
