AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – West Ham striker Michail Antonio will not travel to Jamaica’s World Cup qualifier against the USA in Austin, Texas.
Antonio, August Premier League Player of the Month, remains in England.
“I can confirm that unfortunately I will not join the Jamaica national squad for the World Cup qualifiers this week,” Antonio said in a statement from the Jamaica Football Federation on Tuesday.
“Myself, West Ham United and Jamaica all agree that given the current logistics and travel difficulties, it would be better for me to stay at the club in London at this point,” he said. “I remain fully connected to Jamaica and look forward to representing my country in the future.”
Antonio’s parents are from Jamaica. The 31-year-old made his national team debut on September 5 in Kingston in a 3-0 defeat against Panama.
Jamaica also said goalkeeper Jeadine White has replaced Dennis Taylor on the Reggae Boyz roster.
Jamaica will play the USA on Thursday evening, will be at home against Canada on Sunday and in Honduras on October 13th.
