MilkRun Announces $6 Million Series A Funding Round Led by Spark Capital

Austin, Texas – (BUSINESS WIRE) – MilkRun, a subscription service that delivers weekly staple groceries sourced direct from small, local farms, has raised $ 6 million in its Spark Capital-led Series A fundraising round that is used by existing investors in Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, Social, Involve Impact Capital and Congruent VC. The AgriTech company grew 15x in 2020, expanding its services from Portland, OR, to Seattle, WA and Austin, TX. With its view of new markets, MilkRun is committed to creating stronger and more sustainable local food systems by helping smallholders not only survive, but truly thrive.
“We doubled MilkRun because the company is reinventing a new supply chain infrastructure that is bringing smallholders – and their higher quality and higher quality food products – back to a market that they otherwise left long ago,” said Anna Mason. Managing Partner of the Revolutions Rise of the Rest Seed Fund. “As a result, Milkrun can literally and figuratively deliver for the conscious consumer in 2021 who is considering where, how and why to buy groceries.”
MILKMAN MODEL, NEW FOUND
The Series A funding will strengthen MilkRun’s position in the marketplace to create a fairer and more profitable system where small farms can still play a big role.
The company’s mission is driven by CEO & Founder Julia Niiro’s belief that numbers have power, proving that a small commitment from everyone is enough. If more people chose to use MilkRun for a small weekly delivery of eggs or dairy products instead of buying those products from a large grocer, local farmers would see millions of dollars in inflow each year. By taking a fresh perspective on its mission, MilkRun aims to educate consumers about the impact their MilkRun subscription is having on small local farms and revolutionize the way we source our food.
“Our mission at MilkRun is to make it easy for every household in America to buy even their eggs from a local farmer,” said Julia Niiro, CEO and founder of MilkRun. “That’s because we believe that changing the world begins one neighborhood – and one egg – at a time.”
“MilkRun has created a modern, local and sustainable way for ordinary people to access their local farms, support local food systems, while increasing the resilience of our food system,” said Abe Yokell, Managing Partner of Congruent Venture. “We believe Julia’s vision of enabling local marketplaces for farms across the country is a key component in creating a sustainable food system.”
