Mister Car Wash Announces Recipients of 2021 Teachers Who Shine Awards

TUCSON, Arizona – (BUSINESS WIRE) – With the holiday season approaching and a feeling of gratitude in the air, Mister Car Wash, Inc. (the “Company” or “Mister”; NYSE: MCW) is proud to announce its fifth year winners. Teachers Who Shine ”program, an initiative that focuses on recognizing teachers who have done more than possible for their students.
This year, Mister Car Wash received over 4,000 nominations for its Teachers Who Shine 2021 program, each describing the heroism and selflessness that continue to take place in classrooms across the country. The nominees each received a free Platinum Express car wash. For the top 25 nominees, each participant received a $ 500 classroom grant and a one-year Unlimited Wash Club® membership. In total, Mister is returning more than $ 90,000 to teachers across the country through direct class grants and in-kind donations.
Each of the nominees this year has demonstrated what they made in the students’ lives. Examples include:

Andria Pettera, English teacher at Flowing Wells High School, Tucson, AZ: As the director of the school’s Dream It, Be It program, Ms. Pettera works with the young women in her school providing career and college preparation, mentoring and general guidance to become self-sufficient individuals for the future. Between serving as a lawyer and being the second mom for everyone at Flowing Wells, Ms. Pettera has influenced the lives of countless students throughout her career and is a major embodiment of the Teachers Who Shine program.

Jecil Smith, Kindergarten Teacher at KIPP Austin Connections Elementary, Austin, TX: Ms. Smith received multiple submissions for the Teachers Who Shine Award, and each one mentioned her amazing warmth, positive attitude, patience, and love for her students. Making learning fun and exciting for her kindergarten kids, Mrs. Smith shows herself in every possible way to help her students succeed. Parents praise their support to make it an integral part of their children’s learning, and colleagues marvel at their selflessness. There is no doubt that KIPP is a better school because of their presence.

Pedro Gonzalez, Spanish Teacher at Samuel Ogle Middle School, Bowie, MD: Since joining the Samuel Ogle family 14 years ago, Mr. Gonzalez’s commitment to his students has been best demonstrated by running the school’s fantasy football and television production clubs to discover new interests. along with an annual spring break trip to Latin America for its students to practice Spanish in the real world. Mr. Gonzalez’s efforts to create an engaging, engaging, and inclusive educational environment for his students continue to be the talking point of the school and represent the difference he makes in students’ lives every day.

Tara Watkins, Computer Technologist at Horace Mann Elementary, Springfield, MO: Ms. Watkins is a teacher who always goes beyond what is asked of her. She has written several scholarships on behalf of Horace Mann and always attaches great importance to helping children in need and making them feel special. Whether it’s making sure students have something to eat at school, packing snacks home for students so they won’t be hungry at dinner, or raising funds to make sure a little girl in need gets the bike she asked Santa Claus for, Mrs. Watkins always delivers.
