Nancy Haston Foster, 85, of San Antonio died at her home on February 15, 2021. She was born in Austin to her parents Archie Burt Haston and Verlea Jones Haston. Nancy leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law Linda Haston Frazer and Robert L. Frazer, Jr. of Austin; their nephews, Lee Frazer and Danny Frazer, and their families from Durango Colorado. Nancy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1953. In 1957 she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Phi Beta Kappa and Honors with a BJ and BA in Journalism and Sociology. At UT, she was an active member of Chi Omega Sorority, Orange Jackets, Mortar Board and Secretary of the Student Union. Her awards include the Silver Spur Award for Most Outstanding Woman on Campus and the Gail Borden Award in Journalism. Stints – Louisiana Social Worker, Freshman Sociology Lecturer at UT Austin, and PR at Trinity University in San Antonio. Nancy’s work as a freelance writer includes the following books: Author – Texas Missions, a Texas Monthly Guidebook; Co-authored – San Antonio: A Monthly Travel Guide to Texas; Author – Alamo and Other Missions to Remember.

Newspaper: Lifestyle and business features as well as feature columns for both daily newspapers, the San Antonio Express-News & San Antonio Light. Nancy was a member of Women in Communications. We will miss Nancy’s intelligence, wit, honesty and friendship. A brief funeral service in memory of Nancy will be held this Saturday, August 7th at 12:00 noon at Mission Burial Park North, 20900 IH 10 West, San Antonio, 78257. Guests are advised to dress comfortably because of the heat and wear a mask because of COVID. Instead of flowers, the family suggests making a memorial donation in memory of Nancy to a charity of your choice.
