Nationwide Tech Hiring Surges in Second Quarter, Per Dice Q2 Tech Job Report

CENTURY, Colo., August 10, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Tech job postings grew 16% in the second quarter of 2021, with locations, occupations, skills, and employers across the country being a strong one for Dice, a., Q2 2021 Tech Job Report DHI Group, Inc. (NYSE: DHX) brand experienced quarterly growth.
Job postings remained high among the top 50 tech employers (by posting volume) in the second quarter, with 78% of tech job postings increasing from the previous quarter. With emerging tech hubs like Las Vegas, Sacramento and Nashville After the strongest growth, most mature tech hubs also performed well in the second quarter.

The Dice Q2 Tech Job Report is based on an analysis of more than 1 million tech job postings between April and April June 2021 and is then compared to job posting data from January to March 2021, as well as historical trends (via Burning Glass Technologies). The report includes data and analysis of the percentage change from quarter to quarter based on the volume of technical vacancies, analyzed by location, employer, occupation and qualification. This edition of the report contains three Tech Hub Highlights, Call-Out Sections, which outline the main features of Austin, TX, Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA.
48 out of 50 top cities saw job posting growth; Emerging hubs outperform
In the second quarter, job postings increased across the country. Both mature and emerging hubs continued to expand to meet demand.

Las Vegas recorded the highest growth with a plus of 43% compared to the previous quarter. Before the pandemic, Las Vegas was one of the fastest growing technology markets, providing technologists with a variety of opportunities in high-growth areas such as software development, game technology, data centers, and autonomous vehicles. Sacramento, which saw technology job postings rise 36% in the second quarter, was also well received as a growing center for innovation. Other emerging hubs are Nashville (+ 32% growth), followed by 30% growth in Miami.27% growth in Colorado Springs.26% growth in Phoenix and 19% growth in Tampa.

Prominent tech states like California, new York, Texas, Florida and Colorado all experienced growth, with Florida (+ 25% from Q1), Colorado (+ 24%) and Texas (+ 21%) at the top of the list. Texas stayed only in second place California in bookings, with strong growth in Austin, Dallas, Houston and Plano. New York State also posted 19% growth, led by New York City 21% growth compared to the previous quarter. Nevada (+ 35%) and Arizona (+ 24%) in second and sixth place in quarterly growth, with growth in Las Vegas In Nevada, and Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale In Arizona.
Proven skills remain favorites in the second quarter
The job advertisements in the second quarter showed that time-honored favorites are still in demand when it comes to skills.
- Python remains dominant, with a 15% quarterly increase in job postings listing it as a desired skill. Its momentum shows no signs of slowing down. GitHub survey data shows that Python, HTML, and Javascript were the most widely used languages by students, the new generation of technologists.
- Project management job postings rose 15% in the second quarter, remaining at the forefront of key skills employers are looking for. The continued interest in candidates with project management, Scrum and JIRA experience shows that companies are looking for technologists who have a proven track record of effectively managing teams and projects.
- Job postings that included Salesforce as a skill grew 22% in the second quarter. Having Salesforce proficiency in job postings shows that technologists are an increasingly important voice in marketing, sales, and other business-critical areas.
- Data management is still a sought-after skill. Job postings seeking technicians trained in Tableau grew 18% in the second quarter of 2021.

To collect these insights, job posting data was provided by Dice’s partner Burning Glass Technologies, which has a database of more than 1 billion current and historical job postings worldwide. Dice analyzed over 1 million technical job postings in the US To collect our specific dataset, we filtered for “Information Technology” jobs with hours that fall under “Full-Time”, “Part-Time” and “Not Listed”, as well as job types that fall as Are categorized as “Permanent” or “Not Listed”. The data sets used for the “Employer” area were collected according to the criteria mentioned above, with an additional filter for job advertisements that only originate from employers’ sites.
