Netflix Series ‘Queer Eye’ Premieres New Austin Season on New Year’s Eve

The time has come: the Queer Eyes Austin season starring the Fab Five will premiere on New Year’s Eve next month. Stars Bobby Berk, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, Tan France and Antoni Porowski started filming the Texas episodes in 2020 when the pandemic began. They had to pause filming while food and wine expert Porowski was filming his own on-site cooking show from his Austin kitchen. Filming resumed a year later in April. Season six will be available through the Steaming service on Friday, December 31st.
Another new ghost kitchen opens in Austin
Guatemala-born fast-casual chain Pollo Campero opened its first location in Austin this week on November 18th. It is located at 8023 Burnet Road in the Wooten neighborhood. The Ghost Kitchen restaurant serves fried and grilled chicken dishes, sandwiches and salads, as well as empanadas and side dishes such as mashed potatoes, rice and yucca fries. Orders can be placed online, by telephone or via third-party deliveries.

Esquire magazine published its list of the best new restaurants in the country this year. Includes Hestia, a live fire restaurant in downtown Austin by chefs Kevin Fink and Tavel Bristol-Joseph, which opened in December 2020.

The Heritage Gastropub Hopfields is celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend with a roast pork. The Choucroute garnie à l’Alsacienne square is served with Toulouse or Boudin Blanc sausages, roast pork, bacon, sauerkraut and sauces. There will also be special draft beers, a raffle, and a costume contest where participants will be encouraged to dress up like the restaurant’s logo, Jean-Luc, and sell glassware / clothing. The restaurant will be open for its regular brunch and dinner service. It will take place on Saturday, November 20th from 2pm to 6pm
The Austin Tex-Mex chain Trudy’s is celebrating its 44th anniversary on Saturday, November 20th from 7 p.m. with food and drink specials at both locations (South Star and North Star), ice tobogganing and mariachi bands.
The North Loop Bar Drink.Well is hosting the next cocktail class, this time on cognacs and brandies. The $ 65 class includes a cocktail, liquor flights, and snacks. It will take place on Sunday, November 21, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Food Hall Fareground in the city center offers ginger and turmeric with a whole range of specials and courses. The street-level bar Ellis hosts three cocktail courses in which participants learn how to make three drinks. The restaurants offer food and drink, including French carrot and ginger soup from Austin Rotisserie, Hawayej hummus with chicken from TLV, ginger monster cookies from Henbit, and ginger negronis from the bar. Margot Blair Floral retail trolley also sells ginger items and gifts. The Ginger Festival began on November 16 and will last until Monday, January 3, 2022.
